Watching the World Cup in Cyprus
June is a great time to visit Cyprus, but we know that nagging worry about missing the football on holiday. (An England game clashed with the Hurling in Ireland 2006, and caused a major panic during a cycle trip there - a sweaty dash to the next village).
Many villas have satellite TV, although you may get commentary in a language other than English. Most villa companies would be happy to suggest a nearby sports bar where you can watch the game on a big screen. Most of the locals have allegiance to a Premiership Club, and the whole island is big on football. Even somewhere slightly remote like Latchi has a sports bar, although there are no guarantees if you go as far out as Pomos. Coral Bay and Pahos - no problem at all.
To make life even easier, Cyprus is in the same time zone as South Africa. So you can read the schedule and not even bother to convert the times!
